This is the absolute WORST digital copy on ANY book that I have ever used!!! First, it is apparently not designed for the Kindle Voyage (a fact that was not disclosed when I bought it). Second, when trying to read it on the Kindle Fire, the font is so tiny that it is practically unreadable without a magnifying glass and when one tries to change the font size, that option is not available; when you turn the Kindle horizontally, the font is now of readable size but there are sections of text that are missing and to not want to load. I will NEVER purchase a digital textbook through Amazon EVER again!! When I called customer service at Amazon, I was told that my only option at this point is to buy a hardcopy of the book and return the digital one. I am trying to read coursework that is assigned and find that I cannot complete the required reading and will have to find a hardcopy of this book and wait for it to be delivered - wasting precious time that I just do not have.If I could give zero stars on this one I would.

I’m pretty annoyed with the quality of this book. I turned pages gently and they are falling out of the binding. It’s very poorly bound and it’s really frustrating.Edit: literally minutes after writing my first review, this “very good” book that I’ve used ONCE completely fell apart.

This is by far one of the best evidence-based practice books I have found. Very clear and concise. Takes you step-by-step through the entire process. This is a great resource book if it's not being used for a course. Overall very detailed and supportive of the EBP process. Highly recommended for research or for EBP projects in any nursing field.

The book and content are very easy to understand without being overly complicated. The only issue I have is not with the book content but with the binding. When you open to a page and try to flatten the book out, the pages sometimes become unglued. I fixed this by taping in the pages that unglued with packing tape but still frustrating that it does that. Hopefully the manufacturer will remedy this for future publications.

The content is fine but I guess I need a three ring binder. This book is the most recent version so I'm not sure how long it was sitting around in someone's garage but every page I read--falls out. Is it crappy manufacture? Who knows? I have to keep it together with spring clips. :(

The authors have made this useless book unreadable. In an attempt to not plagiarize the multiple cited passages, it reads like a thesaurus on crack. It was like torture. Please, teachers, don't choose this book unless you secretly hate your students.

My book is literally falling apart, pages are coming out left and right. This book is poorly put together which is not very helpful when studying through a Mater's Program. Thank goodness it has page numbers so I can see where each page actually belongs but this is creating so much more work for me when I already work full time, am going to graduate school and have a very busy/active family schedule.

Book content is fine, however, I am 2 weeks into my course and the binding has pulled away from the glued pages and the pages are falling out of the book. Unsatisfied with the quality and highly disappointed. My educational program requires physical books and I must somehow keep this one together or purchase another! Perhaps a zip top baggie?

This book helped me through a very tough time in my life.It was so beautiful and adventurous and human and sad and happy and wondrous that, over the course of a month, it lifted me out of the darkness. I rationed it to one chapter a day, which I read on the subway on my way to the office. I looked so forward to it. It's one of those books I found myself thinking about when I wasn't reading it, counting the hours until my special half hour on the subway.I feel like the subject matter mentioned out of context might turn some people off (mostly women): it centralizes around the two jewish boys who created the comic book "The Escapist" (a metaphor for the "Superman" comic) in bustling New York City during and after World War II, a time when America needed a hero. I promise you, though, the characters, the tone, the locations and the deeply human undertones transcend the book's logline. It's really about love, religion, overcoming deep adversity (including nazis, heartbreak and profound loss), loyalty, friendship, death-defying escape acts and edge-of-your-seat excitement and adventure. The word "wondrous" really does capture the feeling the book left me with - a sense of childlike wonder and heart rending emotion simultaneously. It captures the excitement of the time so well that it made me feel I was part of something larger, just by reading it.I hope you'll treat yourself to this (pulitzer winning) epic of human proportions. Regardless of your sex, religion, race or creed, this book has something amazing to give you. It has stuck with me for over ten years and I can't wait to read it again.

To be honest, I struggled through some of the beginning, but am so glad I stuck with it. There is so much in this book about human nature, cruelty, friendship, love, & forgiveness. I read and savored it over time, as I did The Goldfinch or All the Light We Cannot See. As a comic lover whose mother bought her a comic book every trip to the grocery store (& I still have them), I loved how comics and their creation were woven into the fabric of this story. I will be re-reading mine again, looking at their construction with fresh eyes.

This story begins in 1939 in New York City. Sammy Klayman lives as an only child to a single mother, and one day his cousin from Europe - Joe Kavalier shows up at their doorstop after escaping his war torn country. He is alone and scared, and Sammy does not like that this kid is not a member of his household. Quickly, though, Sammy discovers that Joe can draw. Sammy starts to share his love of comic books, and soon he and Joe are working together making their own comic book series. They come up with their hero - the Escapist - based on Joe's past of being able to escape like Houdini. Their comics soon become extremely popular. They have their own series, their own toys, their own radio show. Joe stashes all of the money he makes away so that one day he can bring his entire family to America.Tragedy strikes, and Joe runs away. For 11 years, Sammy and Joe's girl - Rosa - search for him to no avail. It isn't until Rosa's son, Thomas, starts to disappear into New York City, skipping school, to visit a mysterious man at a local magic shop. Soon Joe is back in their lives and everything changes for he and Sammy.This book was.....okay. First of all - it was way too long. Very wordy. I found myself skimming sometimes just because there wasn't a lot of dialogue and too much explanation. It is a writing style - I get it - it just isn't for me. Second of all - I did not like Joe. His character was frustrating and extreme. There was a fairly good size chunk of this book during the part that Joe is absent that I felt could have been eliminated all together. Or at least shortened. It completely derailed the story, and didn't fit. The beginning, though, and the ending, when Sammy and Joe were together - was entertaining. Sammy is a witty character and had some great lines. He kept the story afloat and moving forward, unlike Joe's character.This book is definitely for folks who love comic books. They talk quite a bit about the comic book greats throughout this book and mix true history into the story of these fictional writers. My husband - who is a total nerd for these types of stories - is going to read it next so I will be anxious to hear his take on it.

About the Author

Marion Dane Bauer is the award-winning author of more than one hundred books for young people, from early readers to young-adult novels, including On My Honor, for which she was awarded a Newbery Honor Award.  She recently authored The Stuff of Stars which received a Coretta Scott King medal for illustration. She taught writing and served as a Faculty Chair at the Vermont College of Fine Arts, but now writes full-time.  She lives in Minnesota. A little boy in my Sunday School class once said this was one of his favorite books. He'd read it at the library. Thought it would be a neat birthday gift! He loved it!

Difficult to find a book for preschoolers that went hand & hand with this thyme. Kids enjoyed the read!

This is a wonderful book! It is for younger children of course, but all of the adults (approx. 30) that broused our copy were very impressed by the illustrations.

I will use this book with my preschoolers to explain what is meant by March coming in like a lion and going out like a lion. I love the illustrations. I think this will be a good addition to my library.

What an adorable little story to illustrate the old saying. My students loved it. The beautiful illustrations and the rhymes led to great discussions.

About the Author

Marie Carre was a French author, nurse and convert from Protestantism in 1965. Her dramatized memoirs, entitled AA-1025: Memoirs of the Communist Infiltration Into the Church, were originally published in 1972 as ES-1025 by Editions Segieb, France. The English edition was printed in 1973 by Editions St. Raphael, and later republished by TAN in 1991. The work is comprised of various biographical notes that the author obtained from a Communist who entered the seminary with the intent of subverting the Church. Marie Carre died in 1984 at Marseilles, France.

Wow this book was fascinating. Books have to really catch my interest for me to make time to read them. This one had me researching after I quickly finished it. Made me wonder where in the world he was at when stationed and in school, and where is Sr. raven hair today. I would have loved to have heard her version of dating this man. She was so protected by God and yet I sensed the agony she must have endured. Also I wonder if any one else ever recorded their interactions with this AA. Makes me wonder who else are AA priests and we just think they are liberal priests. Good explanation for some of the seeds against Catholic teaching and how the faith has become watered down over the years.

An extremely important book for anyone who wants to clarify the "sinful" situation of the Catholic Church in our times. Briefly, the Church does not err, nor do legitimate priests. This book shows the infiltration of "bad priests" into the church to bring it down. Worth reading.

Any Catholic who has yet to read this should do so ASAP. It will answer many of the questions asked by loyal Catholics regarding Vatican II and the liberalism which has taken over.....with the approval of our Bishops.

explains a lot about situation in the church especially it comes together like page 70 or 80. Then it starts talking about specific changes that happened. It's a shame it happened really, but God has a reason for all.

This is just one of many items that I have either read or listened to regarding the infiltration of enemy forces into Holy Mother Church. It is real & it is maddening. I’m a Protestant convert. I did not become Catholic to worship as a Protestant. We are at war & must fight with fire. Faithful Catholics learn your faith - true Catholic Faith; become a Catechist & teach the young. There is no better way to learn the faith than having to teach it to someone else.

I enjoyed the read and believe we are living this invasion into our church.

Just an incredible read! Initially, it read as a conspiracy novel, and only after I have done some crosschecking on Internet I was able to say, no, this is 100% true! It is all happening around us, destruction of all traditional values, breakdown of families and pedophiles in the churches and schools, all prepared well ahead by communists, by Lenin and even more his "friend" Trotsky already in 1920ies. They designed - and started to execute - a very smart plan to eliminate morality and religion, because these were the greatest obstacles against world dominion of "Communism".The book tells an unbelievable, yet true story. A must read.

I am amazed how easily it was for this Russian Communist to infiltrate a catholic seminary, become a priest and spread communist propaganda in the seminary and the Catholic Church. You need to read the book to understand the book's title--very interesting. The Catholic Church and especially the Vatican, is even to this present day, influenced by these infiltrations of communism and free-masonry.

Just a warning on this book if it's a gift- my book came with a giant barcode sticker on the cover that was impossible to take off-cleanly.The book itself is great! Super heroes and villains- everything a little kid would love. Illustrations are nice and stories are great for ages 5+.Added some pics to show barcode sticker, illustrations and table of contents.

My son loved the 5 minute star wars stories, so much so that we bought him this book and the DC version too. We were disappointed that the Marvel one doesn't use much imagination and is pretty violent. I know that's true to the comics but my 3 yr old doesn't need to see Spider-Man beating every villain with a right cross to the jaw or a jump kick to the back of the head.The DC 5 minute storybook, by contrast, includes a bunch of creative (albeit silly) stories where the heroes use their brains to beat the bad guys. There's very little violence.Violence has a place in stories, but I'd prefer to keep it out of stories for young kids who aren't quite mature enough to make good decisions about when to emulate their favorite super heroes.

My boyfriend wanted to introduce our toddler to his love of Marvel comics, so I thought this would be perfect, and when I saw Black Widow on the cover I figured she'd have a story featured inside the book. Sadly this was not the case -- not only is NO woman character featured, but they appeared on barely any pages even in the background AND they had several stories about the same character. Both girls and boys need to see equal representation of both genders in superhero books. I especially don't want my little girl to get the message that only men can be heroic. Marvel has had so many serious issues with failing to represent their female characters on the toy market, and I'm disappointed they are still struggling with this lesson in this day and age. Thank goodness I bought it used. I'm glad I didn't give them any of my hard earned money.

My 4 year old son is very interested in super heroes and this book fits the bill! The stories are a pretty good length and will range from the advertised 5 min to closer to 10 depending on how inquisitive your child is. Mine can't go 2 seconds without asking a question so sometimes these stories take awhile. I've seen some folks complain about the "plot" etc. but my son is 4 and doesn't really need a Hitchcock film....he just wants the good guys to beat the bad guys, and they do. Personally I like that he gets "good" guys and "bad" guys shown to him, yes the world is shades of grey....but he's 4...lets start with "good" and "bad" and go from there. For me the most important thing is he wants these stories read to him, he listens (with frequent interruptions for questions), and he is interested in reading! My biggest complaint is I don't find the artwork to be as good as some of the other children's super hero books I have seen. The art isn't glossy and doesn't really "pop" off the page, kinda bland if you ask me. My son hasn't complained so apparently it doesn't bother him. Yes there is some "violence" in it but it's pretty minor and heavily stylized so I don't have too much of a problem with it. Yes there is fighting, and fighting is "bad", but I also use that as an opportunity to reinforce the difference between real and fantasy to him. Anyway, I feel that folks shouldn't over analyze a children's story, I was brought up with Hansel and Gretel where the witch was going to eat the damn kids!!!! Even though this beautiful oversize hardcover 188 page full color illustrated pages (5-Minute Marvel Stories) book is aimed at children; nevertheless, if you are into graphic novels or short stories about super heroes this is a book even some adults might enjoy. The full color illustrations really make the short stories come alive.The book is organized into 12 stories and includes the following: The Amazing Spider-man: Keep away from Kraven the Hunter, Spider-man vs. Sandman, Spider-man vs. the sinister six, Peter Parker’s pictures, the uncanny X-Men: the X-men’s first mission, The mighty Thor: a brother’s battle, the Iron Man’s new armor, surprise attack, The mighty Avengers: Captain America Returns, Hawkeye and the mighty Avengers, The incredible Hulk: Desert Brawl, and the courageous Captain America: The lethal lair of red skull.I found this to be a fun book to read and it reminded me of the comic books I used to read when I was a young boy. My four year old son loves this book, and I think it will remain age appropriate for a few more years. They have taken the standard superhero stories here and made then simpler and more appropriate for young kids. We like that there are a large number of different stories with a lot of different superheroes. There is a lot of text, but it is broken up nicely with illustrations. Overall, a favorite of ours. The only issue is that it has inspired my son to want superhero themed toys and sheets and everything else!

I was very happy with the quality of this book, as were both parents of the boy I got it for! It’s put together well and I was happy with the illistrations. The parents said their 4 year old girl and 3 year old boy both love this book! Especially for $10, definitely recommend!!!

This, like all of the 5 minute stories series, was a great find for a 5 year old. He can listen through a chapter book but is too old for board books. So these are a great middle ground for bedtime. They are all pretty cute and stay true to the spirit of Christmas (Santa Clause, etc.). He really enjoyed the stories with his favorite characters. And suffered through the princess ones although I think he enjoyed them more than he'd admit.

About the Author

Mo Yan, winner of the 2012 Nobel Prize for Literature, was born in 1955 in North Gaomi Township in Shandong Province, an impoverished rural area that is the setting for much of his fiction. When the Nobel Committee announced the 2012 award to Chinese writer, Mo Yan, it was a name unknown to me. So I chose this collection of short stories as a sampler. It was a fortunate decision, for the eight stories here, chosen by the excellent translator Howard Goldblatt, range over two decades of his writing and reflect a life lived through a turbulent half-century of China's history. As a group, they are strange yet engaging, fabulous yet engaged, and surprisingly easy to read. Of course, I may yet find that Mo Yan the novelist is a very different writer, but I doubt it. The author himself in his playfully candid introduction breaks with Chinese tradition in viewing his short works as every bit as important as his longer ones, and there is a consistency of concern in all these stories that I cannot imagine altering when exercised on a larger scale. Oddly enough, the story that I would single out as distilling Mo Yan's vision is an homage to an older writer, Lu Xun. Entitled "The Cure," it depicts a father and son waiting under a high bridge to await the falling bodies of class enemies executed by the Armed Work Detachment, to gather the materials necessary for a folk remedy to cure a sick relative. The combination of stark historical realism with folklike elements that even verge on the surreal is a characteristic of all these stories, though the proportion differs in each case. "Soaring," in which a young bride develops the power to fly like a bird to escape a forced marriage, is a comic fable with an ugly twist. "Abandoned Child," the last story in the book, reads almost autobiographically in its denunciation of the official "one family one child" policy. Both attack the traditional Chinese attitude to women.The somewhat unfortunately-named title story ("Shifu" is an honorific for a master workman) is both the longest and the most recent. Its leading character, a victim of industrial downsizing, hits on an unusual way of making money, until he encounters some even more unusual clients. Social realism with a twist. Even more twisted is "Iron Child," a surreal tale set against the very real deprivations of the Great Leap Forward, about two children who learn to eat iron in the absence of real food; Mo Yan tells a similar story of himself eating coal as a hungry child. Two of the tales, "Love Story" and "Shen Garden," are more or less straightforward romances -- a banned genre when Mo Yan began writing -- though again with a twist. Be sure to check the Translator's Introduction before reading the second of these; this is the most human of the stories, whose warmth comes from the knowledge that Shen Garden is a metaphor for a later meeting of divorced couples.Perhaps my favorite in the collection is "Man and Beast," an almost phantasmagorical story about a soldier living out the duration of WW2 in a cave in the forest, becoming one with the animals around him, but living in fear of the foxes whose den he stole. This is an appendage to the author's RED SORGHUM, a saga set against the background of China's war with Japan. Although the story itself is relatively short, it gives a sense of what Mo Yan can do on a larger conceptual scale, and makes me eager to read his novels.

While I've read numerous Chinese writers in the past, I have never read a collection of short stories. Mo Yan's "Shifu, You'll Do Anything for a Laugh" collects a handful of his stories from the '80s and '90s. They are interesting enough but they are very quick, very abrupt, and have very little context.The longest story is "Shifu, You'll Do Anything for a Laugh." It is an enjoyable parable about a exemplary machinist who starts a bordello of sorts after his factory is closed. Other stories include "Iron Child," about an abandoned child who meets a spirit. The two of them roam the countryside eating iron during the Great Leap Forward. In "Soaring," a bride grows wings and flies away the day of her wedding. The comparisons to Kafka are valid because several of these stories include such fantastical situations. However, to understand the stories the reader should understand the historical contexts in which they were written.Unfortunately, the stories all end very quickly, often dispensing with the descriptions and resolutions that other contemporary Chinese writers use. Nevertheless, these stories are all quick reads and enjoyable in their own right.

This strange and unsettling collection of short stories by Nobel Prize winner Mo Yan is guaranteed to stick in the minds of its readers, not just because it is wonderfully written by a man whose country is not as open to foreigners as this book is, but because its reality is so far removed from what any of us have experienced or even imagined. Seven short stories and one novella create a sometimes mystical or mysterious mood, though that mood is oftentimes more akin to horror than to fantasy. Whether one should interpret some of the events described in this collection as dark humor, shocking dramatic irony, or simply as the shocking reality of the various Chinese speakers is a question which readers will have to explore on their own.Using Northeast Gaomi Township as his setting (the fictionalized name for Dalan Township where the author lives), Mo Yan creates fast-paced narratives in which nature often plays a strong part, not a benevolent nature, but the cruel nature of "tooth and claw." In almost every story, the main character, no matter how honorable, is foiled by outside forces, and sometimes by nature - always a victim with little or no control over his life and destiny.The seemingly light-hearted novella, "Shifu, You'll Do Anything for a Laugh," tells the story of a man who has worked hard for his entire life, suddenly terminated a month before his retirement. When he comes up with a unique way to earn a great deal of money, he feels so guilty that he eventually goes to the authorities to "confess," with surprising and darkly comic results. "Abandoned Child," by contrast, is a shocking story told by a writer (of what appears to be purple prose, judging from his introduction to this story) who finds an abandoned baby only a few hours old. The baby, of course, is a girl, her fate revealing the full horror of the One Child Rule and the life of an abandoned baby, nearly always a girl, along with the long-term effects on the country.In between these two stories are six others which suggest much about Chinese life - their long enmity with Japan, many legends and folk beliefs associated with nature, the position of women in marriage, and the belief that no matter how honorable one's intentions, the fates will conspire against personal success. The forced abandonment of children by parents conscripted to work for the state, the near starvation of country dwellers, the feeling that the individual is totally unimportant, and the fact that sex is real and love is not, are only a few of the themes which show a bleak picture of Chinese life. Happiness is not even to be a goal among the characters here. The writing is clear and unequivocal, and western readers cannot help but take notice of the contrasts between our cultures, and of these characters' power of sheer endurance in the face of hardship. Highly recommended as an introduction to Mo Yan's work.

As I began to read this book, I had a belief of lack mindedness, and so I was unsure about how the author. I thought maybe this would be more an article than a book. This book was written very well, and made complete sence to me. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to gain insight as to the "Law of Attraction", and how to make it work the reader.

This book is fantastic! Eddie writes a serious yet very readable and entertaining look at metaphysics, and how we can manifest our desires and goals. He mentions many of my favorite authors, including Neville Goddard and Dr. Joseph Murphy, emphasizing the very best of their beliefs. Eddie also explains the importance of visualization and vibrational energy. I love this book because of it's warmth and authenticity. Here are a few words of wisdom shared by Eddie:"A change in consciousness results in a change in physical conditions. We have at our command the most powerful tool known to mankind---our mind. The power within our minds can heal us, prosper us, attract ideal circumstances.....the power of your thoughts is creative energy in its finest and most dynamic form"I love how Eddie stresses the importance of our vibrations, explaining that we attract through our feelings rather than our words. This book is a quick read but contains nuggets of practical tips on visualizing and exercises in the manifesting process. He gives great tips about using all your senses to visualize and feel your desire, and also has tips about how to become open to receiving. He also emphasizes how important it is to actually spend time doing these exercises every day as opposed to just reading about them, the same way a body builder needs to spend some time every day doing exercises to accomplish his goal. I have read many books including The Secret, Joseph Murphy, Wayne Dyer, and this author did give some very good practical advice not mentioned in these other books.

I am currently reading this fantastic book for the second time. As some others have noted, in comparison to many other books on the Law of Attraction, this book is wonderfully concise and offers a clear and detailed plan of action for the reader. When I practiced the techniques in this book after reading it for the first time, I was amazed at the results. Many positive things came my way including sums of money both large and small from unexpected sources, free meals, Broadway tickets, the list goes on and on. The book is also very enjoyable to read because the author's words and ideas radiate a sense of positivity, excitement, and a true desire to help the reader. This book will inspire you to open the door to great things in your life as well as to help bring them to others.

This book is much deeper than I thought, it's a must, easy read and to the point that shows how it works, what the reasons why not work etc.Follows the exact directions and it will work without question.

This book lays out some good guidelines on daily routines to help you become more enlighten on your manifesting mindset. Easy read I took away some better habits for reaching what is coming my way through positive thoughts. Worth the money will give to someone in need in my circle.

I don't usually give 5 stars but this is one that truly deserves them. Why? The author kicks out all the fluff and gets straight to the point. The title actually hides the biggest message that is inside the book, that you can manifest anything you want, not just lottery winnings.This is one of those books that really explains the techniques you REALLY need to get results.If you have watched 'The Secret' and was left wondering, What now? Then this is the book to give you the answers to those unanswered questions. The film was a great plug for all the 'Law of Attraction' courses that followed. You don't need them.This short book has the answers and my hat off to the author for making it crystal clear and easy to follow.It may seem like a cliche, but things have been happening seen changing my attitude to a more positive and out going one. By simply doing what the book outlines you will get results and hopefully your dreams.Give it a try. It would be a shame if when you die, your dreams die with you. What have you got to lose?

Excellently written. Very clear explanation of how the law of attraction works. The author has done a great job of simplifying the law of attraction into daily actions you can take to make it work through and for you. I've been following almost all of the advice given in this book for over a week now and not only do I feel like a better, more magnetized version of myself, I also feel happier and more grateful than ever! I love the feeling of expectation! I haven't felt this energized since my teenage years!
