This is the manga version of a classic anime, also called FLCL (pronounced "Fooley Cooley," which is a euphemism for sex). The anime is a blast, fast, hard-hitting, a sensory delight. The manga can't have the same sense of pace, but what it does what print does: provides depth and coherence to an odd story. If you're not a fan of the anime, the book stands alone but lacks the punch of the anime; if you are a fan, the manga clarifies action that is obscure or glossed over in the anime. FLCL is a great, groundbreaking story and both the anime and the manga are exciting works.

Being a rather iconic anime, I was very curious as to how the manga deviates from the story that many of us already know. Without going too much into detail or spoiling more than I ever could; this is nearly a completely different story with a different tone. It is well paced, well drawn, and has a special feeling with it that is hard to explain. If you're a fan of the FLCL anime, I would definitely recommend this.

It is what it is, a book with the entire collection and if you are a fan of FLCL it makes a great addition to any library. I love the anime and the manga as a fan I see it as a must have and the book itself came in perfect condition. No complaints, just a happy Canti.

My husband loves FlCl, but he's only ever seen the anime. So I got him the manga for Valentines Day. He was so excited! It arrived fast and in perfect condition!

If you like the show of really cool that you love this manga.

Really neat for a fan of the anime. Beautiful addition to our collection.

If you're a fan of the show then it's a must have

Contains the FLCL manga adaptation in its entirety. The colored panels are a nice addition. Not much else to say; if you're a fan of FLCL, then this is another great way to experience it.

Review

“This is a stunning book. Forget for a moment it's about the food of Korea. It's just so impressive on many levels. I already crave the Disco fries and Korean eggplant and I won't rest until I have the Korean fried chicken! Judy has written a beautiful, timely, and truly impressive tome, both mouthwatering and so very informative. Julia Child just got a new and wonderful neighbor on my bookshelf.” —Geoffrey Zakarian, Iron Chef   “The tantalizing flavors and techniques of Korean food are just beginning to find their way into our home kitchens. Judy Joo is the perfect teacher to lead us into this exciting new world. Get ready for fireworks on your taste buds.” —Bobby Flay, chef and author   “For those of us not lucky enough to have been raised by a Korean mom whom we can rely on to give us a tight recipe for a childhood favorite, there is Judy Joo's Korean Food Made Simple. Informative explanations of the Korean pantry, easy to follow recipes, and beautiful photographs will make this your go-to book for Korean cooking.” —Andy Ricker   “Judy Joo is an authority on authentic Korean and American-Korean food. My wife is half Korean so it’s important we celebrate the culture and traditions together and with our kids. Judy’s new book is a refreshing source of inspiration and information that’s open on our bench top every time we cook Korean food.” —Chef Curtis Stone, internationally known chef and chef/owner of Maude Restaurant, Beverly Hills "From kimchi to bibimbap, Joo—who hosts a show on the Cooking Channel—breaks down intimidating dishes." —Entertainment Weekly "Korean American chef Joo’s debut shares a name with her TV show on the Cooking Channel. After introducing familiar and exotic pantry staples, from nutty toasted sesame oil to fiery Korean chile paste, Joo presents 130 recipes that blend traditional Korean home cooking with contemporary and fusion fare. Assorted kimchi and pickles (cubed radish kimchi) can have long fermentation times, but they’re easy to prepare, as are quick stir fries (pork belly and kimchi stir-fry with tofu), soups (instant noodles with spicy rice cakes and fish cakes), and desserts (red bean ice pops). The book also features chapters on sauces, breads, and drinks.VERDICT Like Maangchi’s Real Korean Cooking, this cookbook is an approachable gateway to a popular cuisine. Comparatively, Joo’s recipes are fancier, with more nods to Western palates (think: cheesecakes, cheesesteaks, wings, and tacos). Highly recommended." —Library Journal "Joo, host of the Cooking Channel’s Korean Food Made Simple, brings her unique style to Korean cuisine in this delightful and original book. Joo was raised in New Jersey by Korean parents and trained at the French Culinary Institute, and her recipes reflect this fusion of cultures and flavors. Her main focus remains on Korean cuisine, but she adds her own modern twists to reflect her complex palate. Kimchi pulled-pork disco fries, ultimate KFC (Korean fried chicken), and kimchi and bacon brioche are just a few examples of her appealing innovations. She provides a useful section on pantry staples and includes recipes for essential components of many Korean meals, including kimchi, pancakes, and dumplings. Crispy anchovies, kimchi fried rice, and “krazy” Korean burgers (made with ginger, pancetta, soybean paste, and seltzer) exemplify the wide range of combinations that Joo embraces. Soy-glazed tofu salad, “magical” chicken ginseng soup, and spicy pork belly cheesesteak are all big on flavor and use easy-to-find ingredients. Joo notes that traditional Korean desserts don’t translate well to a Western palate, so she’s revamped traditional offerings to create tempting combinations such as caramel doenjang ice cream, spicy molten chocolate lava cakes, seaweed shortbread, and Korean coffee brownies. Cooks looking to make a first foray into Korean cooking or those wishing to enhance their knowledge will delight in Joo’s uncommon approach and her tasty creations." —Publishers Weekly"Judy Joo’s Korean Food Made Simple is going to be a big cookbook this year... Joo’s book, available in May from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, is attractive, accessible, and full of great food that doesn’t take itself too seriously." —Departures Magazine

I've been watching her show on the Cooking Channel since it premiered and really enjoy it. Her recipes on the show looks simple. As a Korean-American, my Mom and Dad did all the cooking for our family when I was growing up. So when I started to live away from my parents I had no idea really how to cook Korean food. I've asked my Mom to write down her recipes, but she never had the time to do it. As Korean food is becoming more accessible and popular more Korean food recipe blogs and web sites have come up. I especially liked Maangchi's YouTube videos and recipes. But what I liked about Korean Food Made Simple is how Judy Joo travels to Korea and explains the Korean culture and history and shows how it's made in Korea and duplicates the recipe for the home cook but in a simpler way.Her cookbook is organized into several categories which have some of my favorite Korean foods. I just got the Kindle version today, so I will update my review after I've tried some of her recipes.I wish the Kindle version had a table of contents where you can click on the category. The categories are:Kimchi and PicklesPancakes, Dumplings and other small bitesSalad & VeggiesRiceNoodlesSoups & StewsSeafoodChickenBeef & LambPorkSaucesBreadSweetsDrinksI've already bookmarked the following recipes!Kimchi pancakes, Bindaetteok, Haemul pajeon, Mandu, Potato Salad, Kimchi Pulled Pork Disco Fries, Bibimbap, Kimchi Fried Rice, Jjajangmyun, Oxtail Soup, Mackerel, KFC, Galbi Jjim, Galbi, Dubu Kimchi, and all the different soju drinks!

Love this book. The pictures are gorgeous and I love the background that she gives on each recipe. The recipes are easy to follow and if you don't have the products in your grocer's store, you can buy them all on line (just plan ahead, obs). Love Judy Joo and her show. Even my 14 year old is a fan.

I had already read this book as a library check-out and have now purchased as a gift for a family member who enjoys cooking Korean food. Recipes are clear and the one's I tried turned out well. Ms. Joo's discussions about the individual recipes as well as the culture of Korean cooking are interesting and entertaining. It's one of the few cookbooks I have read from cover to cover.

The book was very imformative. There are lots of recipes to follow. There are some Korean food that can be fattening lke the double fried chicken but overall, Korean food is nutritious, delicious, and low in calories. I recommend this book as well as Maangchi's cook book.

Now one of my favorite cook books -- images are stunning and she makes Korean food elegant, delicious, and accessible. Great for people like me, who grew up eating Korean food, but also a wonderful starter for someone just getting acquainted with Korean cuisine. I'm a huge fan of her show and I've been knocking out these dishes each week and my family loves them!

So far I have only made one of the dishes but it was delicious. I am looking forward to trying lots of them all when I have time. The book itself is very well put together, very colorful. Beautiful photographs. Easy explanations.

Great recipes with superb flavors. Most are easy to make too. Love JJ's TV show too!

My favorite British Korean chef! I have been interested in Korean cooking since I saw Chef Joo on Cookingtv.com.

We Were Soldiers Once...And Young: Ia Drang The Battle That Changed the War in Vietnam

From Publishers Weekly

On Nov. 14, 1965, the 1st Battalion of the 7th Cavalry, commanded by Lt. Col. Moore and accompanied by UPI reporter Galloway, helicoptered into Vietnam's remote Ia Drang Valley and found itself surrounded by a numerically superior force of North Vietnamese regulars. Moore and Galloway here offer a detailed account, based on interviews with participants and on their own recollections, of what happened during the four-day battle. Much more than a conventional battle study, the book is a frank record of the emotional reactions of the GIs to the terror and horror of this violent and bloody encounter. Both sides claimed victory, the U.S. calling it a validation of the newly developed doctrine of airmobile warfare. Supplemented with maps, the memoir is a vivid re-creation of the first major ground battle of the Vietnam War. Photos. Copyright 1992 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Library Journal

Ia Drang, in November 1965, was the first major battle fought by U.S. troops in Vietnam. It was also one of the fiercest. As a lieutenant colonel, Moore commanded the battalion that initiated the fighting. War correspondent Galloway accompanied Moore's troopers from start to finish. We Were Soldiers Once movingly depicts Ia Drang through the eyes of junior officers and enlisted men of the 1st Cavalry Division and their North Vietnamese opponents. The authors convincingly present Ia Drang as an archetype of a self-defeating U.S. strategy that emphasized wearing down a determined and skillful enemy on the battlefield. The result was an unacceptably high level of American losses for the results achieved. One of this book's most telling episodes is its depiction of an army so unprepared to deal with casualties that some telegrams notifying families of a son or husband killed at Ia Drang were delivered by Yellow Cab! Recommended for all collections.- D.E. Showalter, U.S. Air Force Acad., Colorado SpringsCopyright 1992 Reed Business Information, Inc.

This book describes two engagements in Ia Drang, Vietnam, in November 1965. I found it a difficult but compelling read. Beforehand, I knew embarrassingly little about the Vietnam War. Now, thanks to this clear and wrenching account, I have a better understanding of what the soldiers endured. I marked passage after passage, struck by moments of heroism, or the graphic details of warfare, or both at once (such as the young machine gunner left alone manning his gun for two hours, shooting at the enemy, pulling down his pants to crap while lying on the ground under fire).I particularly appreciated the authors' decision to include both the thoughts of four of the enemy Vietnamese officers, and also of several of the wives and children of soldiers who died. The book doesn't try to justify the Vietnam War, but rather shows that the soldiers who fought that war deserve our respect and gratitude. It is a superb book.

If you are considering reading this book, do it. Even if you have seen the movie adaptation, you need to read this book.It is hard to capture just how powerful and moving Hal Moore's account of the battle in the Ia Drang valley is. While I have read countless books about various wars in my life, none have moved me quite in the same way that this book did.Part of this is due to the way it is written. Rather than being a character-driven narrative that reads almost like a novel, like Stephen Ambrose's books, "We Were Soldiers" is a painstaking, minute-by-minute, person-by-person account of the battle. For those n to aware, Hal Moore commanded the American troops at LZ X-Ray, and his care and love for his mean shines through in the most subtle, but meaningful ways. Whenever he mentions a casualty, he includes as much as he can to bring that person to life - a note on their birthday, a mention of their family at home, and so on. Moreover, at the end of the book, he lists every man in his battalion, and updates on where they are today (at time of publishing). It is almost clinical in its level of detail, but that makes it all the more moving. You begin to understand the sheer scale and human cost of this battle, on both sides. Moreover, Moore takes plenty of time to contextualize the battle, both before and after: why it happened, what it meant, and the ramifications for the Army, United States, and individual families. And it is not a one-sided picture, as Moore and Galloway (his co-author, and reporter who was in the Ia Drang) has included details from his interviews with the North Vietnamese commanders. The importance of the Ia Drang campaign should not be forgotten given its importance in history, nor should the many brave men who perished fighting there. Moore and Galloway deserve infinite appreciation for telling this important story. Make sure to read it.

Author Hal Moore was the commander of a 7th Division Air Cavalry Battalion in 1965. This is his story of the Battle of Ia Drang Valley. It was the first time United States ground troops fought the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) in a major battle. There are two parts to the engagement: First, U.S. forces under Moore, using helicopter assault for the first time, dropped into NVA-held territory and were surrounded by a force that out numbered them at least 4 to 1. Using vastly superior fire-power, they fought continuously for about 72 hours. Second, reinforcements in the first battle then marched from there, moved to another “zone” and were ambushed, in a truly desperate situation. The results were the first time the United States suffered truly horrific casualties in Viet Nam, changing the war completely and permanently. Moore's descriptions of the fighting, the soldiers, the jungle, the emotions, the heroism, and the horror of this war are nothing short of amazing and gut-wrenching. He pulls no punches and suffers no fools. He is blunt about American political mismanagement of the war and what it cost. He also was able to interview North Vietnamese commanders and provides truly amazing insights into their strategy and calculations. Moore and his men had great respect for the courage and tenacity of the enemy, with good justification.Moore's love of his men and his competence as a commander are evident throughout the book. He was the type of man you'd want to follow or that you'd ask for your son to follow. Its truly a book to be recommended for anyone with interest in this subject. One additional item - the Mel Gibson movie of the same name does not do justice to the book or what actually occurred.

I usually don't read books about the Vietnam war because so few books are able to tell the story of those days. I cannot say enough about the story Lt. Gen. Hal Moore and Joseph Galloway told here. It's extremely well written. I laughed, I cried and just couldn't put this book down. I bought this book in hard cover for my father and gave it to him on his birthday. He served in Vietnam with the 1st Air Cav in 1968 and was so proud to be a member of that Division. When he passed away I got all the books back I had given him. I immediately read this book. Recently Lt. Gen. Hal Moore passed away and I downloaded this book and read it again on my Kindle. I also served in Vietnam, Army, 1970. If you want to read a book about the Vietnam war I highly recommend this one.
