This book was really a nice size (check the measurements) and the pictures were very nice. It is not expensive, but kept my 5-year-old grandson's attention for weeks. He went to bed with it for days when he first got it and still takes it out all the time. One of his favorites.

I’m a huge fan ofLittle Golden Books and my son nowIs too! He especially loves the superhero books which are quite good! Good message in this book, great illustrations and a fun story for my child!

Think this is a perfect intro to Captain America for my 4 year old son. No, it's not a story with plot lines, twists, character development and award winning writing as some have complained about in their reviews. Its a Little Golden Book with nice full page color graphics, easy words and its only 23 quick read pages which make it perfect for before bedtime.

Cute story, easy to read for the younger set, easy to read to the youngest set! I bought this to go with the 12" Titan Captain America figure, for my 3 year old. He's sandwiched between two girls, so he was in need of some super-hero books and toys to get away from all the princess stuff. He LOVES this book and the others in the series. Marvel was SMART to partner with Little Golden Book on this one.

Book was just as advertised. I bought it for my grandson and he loves it!

A few details that adults catch (like his shoe and belt color changing for no apparent reason), but it’s a collection thing so it doesn’t matter much.

Perfect for children who have no knowledge base of Captain America as it tells the basics. Illustrations are awesome and create conversation points for young children.

My Grandson (5) loved the book. He is into superheros. A good alternative to a comic book for young children.

About the Author

Underwater archaeologist Joseph W. Zarzynski has a bachelor of arts degree in history from Ithaca College (1973), a master of arts in teaching degree in social sciences from Binghamton University (1975) and a master of arts degree in archaeology and heritage from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom (2001). He is co-founder and executive director of Bateaux Below, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation that studies historic shipwrecks in Lake George, New York. Mr. Zarzynski has had nearly two hundred articles and professional papers published in newspapers, magazines and professional journals. He is the author of two books on underwater mysteries and also co-author of a young adult book on Lake George's 1758 Land Tortoise radeau shipwreck. He is also an awardwinning documentary film writer and is one of the executive producers for three documentary productions: The Lost Radeau: North America's Oldest Intact Warship (2005, Pepe Productions), Wooden Bones: The Sunken Fleet of 1758 (2010, Pepe Productions and Bateaux Below, Inc.) and Search for the Jefferson Davis: Trader, Slaver, Raider (2011, Pepe Productions). A native of Endicott, New York, Mr. Zarzynski resides with his wife, Pat Meaney, in the Saratoga Springs, New York area. Bob Benway is a native of Glens Falls, New York, and he resides in nearby Queensbury, eight miles from Lake George. Mr. Benway is a trustee of Bateaux Below, Inc., and also is vice-president of the Lake George Historical Association. Mr. Benway has been scuba diving in Lake George for four decades and is an accomplished underwater photographer and videographer. His underwater photographs have appeared in many publications, and Mr. Benway's underwater video has also been featured in two shipwreck documentaries. The co-authors were part of the team that discovered the 1758 Land Tortoise radeau shipwreck in Lake George on June 26, 1990. The Land Tortoise radeau warship has been called North America's oldest intact warship.

Lake George deep, cold and beautiful, understandably attracts tourists; but the lake also has a rich and vibrant history. It was most important as a corridor between combatants during the French and Indian War. Glimpses of the lake's history can be seen through the study of the numerous sunken ships in the lake. Almost as interesting as the history of the wrecks, is the recounting of the efforts of a dedicated band of volunteers to locate, preserve and provide historical context for the wrecks. One unfortunate problem is that the book consists of a collection of newspaper articles which results in tedious repetition of basic facts; but do not let this blemish discourage you from reading this informative book

I love going to lake George,, it's so beautiful and clean and clear, So I was very interested when I saw this book. I have since loaned it out to friends and family. They loved it as well. I would suggest buying this interesting book. I had no idea how many ship actually went down in that lake. It will be different when I visit next summer.

Anything you want to know about finding sunken Revolutionary boats, leisure boats, to how much garbage they have cleaned up off the bottom of the lake. Interesting reading about the Under water explorers group who has the job of checking out the entire floor of the lake...

Mr. Benway's underwater photography is exceptional! He is also known for his underwater videography of Lake George's underwater maritime discoveries in 2 outstanding DVD's by Pepe Productions. One is The Lost Radeau. The other DVD is Wooden Bones.

I grew up in the area (Bolton Landing) found this book interesting but the author repeats himself over and over. Being a history major any information is great.

Very interesting History read of Lake George!

My husband did not find this book very interesting.

Definitely glad I read this book. I got so engrossed I panicked about the state of my child, only to learn my concern was overblown. After reading this and How to Raise an Adult, we have planned an "adult transition plan" beginning on 16th birthday (soon).

As a parent and teacher in an affluent suburban community, this book was eye-opening and helpful. The author directly address the issue of perfectionism that is creating a society of emotionally damaged and isolated individuals. The author also addresses materialism, values, discipline, warmth, acceptance, and the act of being present.

I really enjoyed this book. It brought to life so many issues that I dealt with i my childhood and helped me work thru how I can be a better father. Very well written and a pleasure to read

Good book if you are raising kids, especially if you're in an upper middle class or rich community. I read the book, my husband saw Dr. Levine give a lecture. He thought it was 100% worth the time and money. My book club found this a good read.

The Price of Privilege is one of the better books I've read in quite some time. I found it insightful, approachable, and practical.While the majority of the book is about the psychological challenges kids from affluent homes are experiencing, I would recommend this book to any parent. The book also indirectly points out challenges facing our world and society, which I found refreshing. While we, to a large extent, live in a capitalist world, there are many dangers to becoming a materialistic society. Madeline does a nice job acknowledging the dangers and offering a perspective that is workable within our culture and society.

Good book on dealing with your privileged kids, but it was light on action plans to implement. Maybe there is no solution but it seems to me that privilege basically delays maturation and as parents we can't let them fall behind their peers in this respect.

Her style of writing is very clear and feels like she is approachable, yet I love that the book is told from both her research and experiences. I found traces of myself and my family members in every chapter. She reminds us what we need to focus on as parents or, in my case, as a teacher. This book also warns against the culture of affluence. It identifies key warning signs and threats that could affect your family. I'd consider this book a worthwhile read.

I read this book 6 years ago when my daughter was in high school. I wish I had read it even earlier. For obsessive-compulsive helicopter parents (who are this way because they want to do everything they can for their child) like I was, and find that this doesn't seem to cause anything but conflict with your child, it is mandatory reading. Stepping back and allowing your child to make mistakes and learn from them by themselves empowers them to be capable adults. Not to mention happier people. You can start a whole new relationship with your child, but this is a process that takes time.

I have very mixed feelings about this book. I think this book is a good attempt, but for the following reasons does not leave you feeling like you bought an educational book, but rather a manual for how to incorporate an Arduino Shield (sold by two of the authors) into your project. There is nothing, in my view, that is too wrong about selling a book and selling a product you use in the book's projects, but since it is not EXPLICITLY mentioned, especially to the online sales on Amazon, it leaves you feeling a bit ripped off. That written what follows are a few of oddities the book contains:Beyond the buy book, still need to buy or make shield issue is that the authors try to introduce and present too many things i.e. an introduction to LEGO construction (via super glossy step by step instructions for their projects... this could have been done in a better layout --not one step one page. Also, some of this could have been put on a website and then the cost and content for the book could have been more refined in its information and more focussed in its incremental introduction of new concepts and projects --often the chapters are rather loosely related... not as tightly linked as some MAKE books that I own, that is for sure!Moreover, during the intro to Arduino... and when I say introduction, I mean a near historical chronicalling, the book even includes glossy color photos... I guess it is nice to know what the guys who created the Arduino project, but why is this in the book?Other oddities in the book come when you find yourself reading pages of external resources... they are scattered throughout the book (don't think this is like a Appendix format) and the affect of the smattering of external shout-outs resonates to me as almost an in book advertisement for more MAKE and cf. Chpt. 3 pgs 49-68! Again, exclude this and thus reduces the page count of fluff and add more tech and LEGO ARDUINO PROJECTS!!!Yet another quirk comes when you get to a chapter that introduces electronics basics eg the enormous photo of a multimeter (pg. 140) and a classic resistor color code image (pg. 141)... not sure why this pertains at chapter 8, it makes one wonder if the object is not to get people who don't know about electronics NOT to buy the shield associated with the book, then they should have put this as Chapt. 1 and then Chapt. 2 how to build the shield NOT Chapt. 8 and Chapt. 10 respectively. I don't get this!The BIGGEST issue that causes me consternation is that the first project you are going to build requires the shield that two of the author's sell through their own site. So the second item on the second page of the book is something that you most likely DO NOT HAVE and will either have to build (more power to you if you have them handy... I just wish the shield issue had been better handled i.e. MENTIONED UPFRONT or in a Amazon product description.Sure, I knew I would need to buy parts for any project book, but after spending over $100 for the shields and break-out boards, and that doesn't even include the motor driver that is used in projects in the book I have to be honest I feel a bit mishandled by the content and projects.Anyway, I like the projects, I don't like the book's chapter order, I don't like the shield being unmentioned in an Amazon product description, but I like the author's goal and don't believe IN ANY WAY they are trying to rip you off by selling you a book and then walking you through projects you have to spend more money for so you can build... Though not their intent it is hard not to feel that this is what ends up happening. Solution: sell a bundle for the book with the shields.... this isn't novel and has been done before with other Arduino books and shields it's a shame it wasn't done in this case.Buy this book, but buy it knowing what else it requires from you to even build the first project --a unique shield! Again, it's worth the money for the book.. but it's a big let down with the need for the shield to actually utilize the book!

I expected this book to contain projects that I could build with my existing NXT kit along with an Arduino board and whatever hardware I would need to interfact the two. Instead there is one project that I could have built, albeit in a slightly different way, with the existing NXT pieces and brick without using Arduino at all (drawbot) and several other projects that require the purchase of other lego pieces including Lego Power Function motors, wii nunchucks and translucent bricks. The book gives a simple schematic for one of the interface shields it uses but doesn't go into detail on how you might build it since it assumes you will just buy one from the authors' website.I also expected the book to discuss in some detail the programming needed to run the NXT motors and sensors with an Arduino board but it did not - you are just instructed to download the code for each project. It looked like a good cookbook for the projects included and I'm sure I would have learned about the programming if I built them, but none of them interested me enough to build them. I was looking more for general tips and instructions for Arduino/NXT interfacing (including pros and cons of Arduino vs. brick) rather than a cookbook with 4 or 5 recipes so I was disappointed. I ended up returning it.One other thing to note: I had assumed that the Arduino board was actually more powerful than the NXT brick but it turns out (according to the book) that the brick actually has more power. That was another reason I returned it. (Granted, the Arduino family of products has shields that can do things the NXT brick can't, but none that I need right now.)

This is an interesting book; I've played with an Arduino and the Mindstorms 2.0 kit.....BUT...My biggest complaint by far with this book is the Lego parts lists. Of course, you can't just simply buy a kit with all the parts included. What were these dolts thinking, do they have a direct line to LEGO so they can easily get ANY part they want? I'm in the midst of an increasingly annoying search trying to track down all the pieces required for these projects. I may have to end up ordering way more of what I need because these "parts websites" usually have a 5$ minimum, even when you only need one of a 15 cent part, and of course, no one website has all the parts needed for any one of the projects in this book. ARRRRGH!! Be ready to do this kind of scavenging if you buy this book, you won't be building any of the projects for at least a few weeks!

I have a 4 Y.O. grandson and we play with Legos (Mindstorms) when we're stuck inside the house. He loves it when his "robots" come to life and he can press buttons to make our projects move. The book took us from the basics through some more advanced projects. The book is also a great reference and I am constantly refering back to it.Be warned: You can wrap up hundreds of dollars building some of the projects and extending the functioning of more basic projects. I think it's worth it, I can't put a price tag on quality time with my grandson.

This is a fun set of projects and I've enjoyed making many of them. A good choice for Arduino neophytes

A very conceive book to get into LEGO's Mindstorm NXT Robot techniques with Arduino ... easy to read and to follow the instructions

Expected to purchase additional parts for both the Arduino (NXT shield) and additional Lego parts, which I have yet to be able to find on either the author's website or at any of their distributors (which they list on their website, but in fact carry none of their products). Overall, very disappointed in the book.

This is the best book I have seen on technique for screen acting. Patrick Tucker wrote the first one in 1993, and I've been recommending it to my acting students all this time. This new edition includes time code markers for referenced scenes. If you have a DVD of the referenced movie (DVD's are not included), you can go directly to the scene in question and see for yourself what he is talking about in terms of technique. There also is a section on directing actors for film, which I find interesting. I've been teaching acting for many years and have read most of the books on camera technique. The audio version so that I could get the first read done fast and the digital for a deeper read and exploration later when I had more time to devote to the topic.What I liked about this book are the many strategies to start up a book project from the ground up by someone who used her passion for writing and storytelling to launch her own writing career. While the voice in the narrative is authentic, it often felt like the author continuously and consistently directed the reader to her web site to cross-sell or expose other offerings. While I believe the web site, "Creative Penn" could be a valuable resource, it is cited so many times that it became annoying. Once per chapter is more than enough for us to remember where the website is located.

This playful book takes that theme to absurd extremes. The story, such as it is, starts with a cat telling a frog to sit on a log. The frog balks, and the cat explains that this is just how things work. "You're a frog, so you must sit on a log." The conversation flows from there. "'What about puffins?' asked the frog. 'Puffins sit on muffins,' said the cat. 'Puffins sit on muffins, snakes sit on cakes, owls sit on towels.'" At last the frog asks what dogs sit on. The cat responds, "'I was hoping you weren't going to ask that.'" The final page shows the frog being squished by a dog. Rhyming words are slightly larger and darker than the others, and the illustrations are as bright and silly as the text. Good rhyming book, but nothing overly unique. It is a classic example of the ole children's' book fallback of "lets talk about animals doing silly things and.... the end!" There's no story, or moral, or really much of anything other than rhymes and words. The art is cute, but nothing that I would show to friends (yes, there are certain picture books that I show to friends).But hey, my kid reads this thing to me constantly (she is five and has it memorized), so maybe chalk this up to a 5 star rating for kiddos; a 3 star rating for a dad who can only hear nonsensical rhymes like "and Lizards sit on Wizards and moles sit on poles and..." so many times; and average it out to 4 stars to call it a day.

My 3 year old daughter loves this book we got it from the library one day and she kept asking to check it back out I knew we needed to buy it. Super cute book

We LOVE this book. The rhymes are great and the illustrations are hilarious. It’s one of my son’s favorites. Be sure to pick up the sequel (Dog on a Frog) as well!

this is a wonderful kid's book. Yes it is repetitive but the illustrations and the narrative are fun for any small child.

We love this book for our 2 year old daughter. We even bought a second to give to her friend as a birthday gift. It's a very cheeky read, as they cat has a humorous attitude. Fun read for parents and kids.
