I just got back from a week long trip to Iceland that involved quite a bit of driving. We drove extensively through the southern part of the country (to Vik), through the Reykjavík-Keflavík area and also the western part of the country north of the Reykjavík area (to Snaefellsjoekull).I read the reviews of this map (obviously not closely enough) before I purchased it and thought that the negative reviews were perhaps due to folks needing more detail on minor roads and the like. We would be sticking to well established roads so i thought there would be no problems for us. After all if it's a NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC map, they're experts in adventure right? And this is called an ADVENTURE MAP so I didn't expect major flaws in the map when it came to the main roads. I was wrong.On several occasions we were disappointed with the lack of detail in the map, that's a small headache and a problem but when driving in a country like Iceland you should expect some flaws as roads do change etc.. the minor stuff we didn't have a problem with and we figured things out as we went. What is unacceptable is that there are main roads on this map that are listed COMPLETELY OFF THE MARK from where they really are located. The inaccuracies cost us dearly one day as we wasted nearly half the day trying to get back on track after being thrown off course because of the map.If you are planning a trip to Iceland that involves driving do yourself a favor and purchase a different map.

We used this map on a 9-day self-guided tour of Iceland. It was great to have. Some people might think that in the age of GPS, printed maps have become obsolete. These are people that haven't visited Iceland, or later became lost and were never seen again. Once you get outside of Reykjavik, the addresses become a bit insane. There's no such thing as "22A Laugavegur Street, Reykjavik Iceland", instead it's something like "Hof Guesthouse Blonduos 541." Have fun putting that in your GPS! Here are some pro's and con's.Pro's:The map is water resistant. This is important in Iceland.It's fold resistant. That is, it withstood a lot of folding without tearing or fading.Almost every farm, village, and attraction is listed.The map delineates between paved and unpaved roads, and also Icelandic "F" roads. This is important if you are travelling in a vehicle that does not have all-wheel-drive, because a lot of roads that the Icelanders consider to be for "passenger vehicles" are actually only passable during two months of the year.Con's:You can't see the entire country on one side. This requires annoying flopping around of the map as you cross over. This happens more then you might think because none of the roads in Iceland go in straight lines.It's not clear what units some of the measurements are in. I eventually concluded that elevation markings were in meters.There were a few places (okay, maybe two) where the way that the roads intersected was not consistent with how they were drawn on the map.

I am currently using this map while bicycling around the island.Here are my issues with the map:1) I consistently find the distances listed do not agree with those listed on the road signs. The signed distances are accurate , the distances listed on the map are usually inflated.2) The visual or spatial depictions are often wrong. A road intersection that is depicted as being very close to an earlier intersection is sometimes several kilometers distant.3) The bigger towns seemed to be listed correctly on the map. For smaller features and landmarks, the places listed on the map are just not there. Conversely, things and places I find on the ground are not listed on the map.Caveat emptor.

The Nat'l Geo. maps are printed on a tyvek-like paper so hold up very well and are waterproof.This is a very important to dummies like myself traveling by motorcycle.While I like the maps, on the cover is says "revised regularly" ... but this map was last revised in 2010 and is missing some of the major additions that Mexico has made to their highway infrastructure in the last 8 years.

Waterproof travel style map. .Actually very durable, and a good map To large, heavy and bulky for backpacking. Not enough detail for a serious travel. Only a broad overview. I expect more out of something this large. Was basically useless except for having out while planning. I did not take it with. I love actual maps, books ect, but in todays modern world found online map apps to be a much better resource. A Thai sim card for your unlocked smartphone will cost about the same as this map. I am not a tech savy person and personally hate smartphones, but found them to be the best option in actual practice.

For years I worked in a map and travel store so I was very familiar with NG maps and have generally had a lot of trust in them. That said, there are some things about this map that were lacking. First of all, there was not inset of Reykjavic which would have been helpful. Also, more information on elevations would be helpful. We went in the spring and encountered heavy snow and white out conditions driving at higher elevations that we were unprepared for. Also, a better explanation in the legend about types of roads would prepare the driver better. That said, I encountered so many understatements in both maps and guidebooks that left us unprepared for the landscape so I know NG isn't alone in miscalculating the environs. Things that were great about the map was the scale as well as the durability of the map. It's made of tear proof, water proof material so it will certainly stand up to all sorts of use. The temptation when driving Iceland might be to get a small, fuel efficient car (gas is terribly expensive) but depending on when and where you are traveling, you may want to upgrade to a sturdy 4 wheel drive vehicle due to the fact that many roads are pocked with pot holes or made of dirt or gravel, or generally very "rustic".

All she had to do was kill the monster. But Shahrzad never expected to find that underneath the leader’s cruel mask was a lonely young man, burdened with an inescapable curse. Instead of revenge, she did the unspeakable, she fell in love. But the world around the two young lovers still burned with hatred and those directly affected by the Caliph’s actions rallied in retaliation. Though in many ways standoffish, Khalid shows an ability to overcome his former animosity towards certain other characters, but at the same time still holding others to a high standard of honor.Shahrzad’s determined nature is a force to be reckoned with. From the very beginning, she’s demanded to be heard and respected. She knows what she wants and can’t be dissuaded from pursuing what she believes is right. Though she has come to love Khalid, she never wavers in her loyalty to her sister and her hope for her father. Although I really wanted to see Khalid open up more to his cousin Jalal, Shahrzad’s relationship with her sister Irsa is held in direct contrast. Their mutual openness isn’t always easy, but their connection with one another makes them instantly more relatable. As the first book is mainly focused on the growing relationship between Shahrzad and Khalid, we hardly ever got to see them apart. This concluding novel gives both characters a chance to shine as each begins to forge their own path.There are several minor characters that I wished we could have learned more about. Most notable is Artan Temujin. Shahrzad meets him through a mutual friend and though he is tasked with teaching her how to hone her own magical abilities, it is his connections that give her hope that Khalid’s curse can be broken. I loved that he challenges Shahrzad, but his own story is left largely untold and his personality is so big, I expected the author to develop him more. Tariq, Shahrzad’s former suitor, spent most of the last book playing the part of a man scorned by his first love and bent on taking revenge on the man he thinks has stolen her. I immediately felt that Tariq had so much more potential and wanted to see him grow as a character. I was extremely happy to see where Ahdieh chose to take his storyline.Renée Ahdieh’s series makes an excellent case for duologies and love stories that don’t involve love-triangles. There are some elements I wished had been explored more, mainly Shahrzad’s own magical gift and magic’s larger role in this universe. Still, not enough can be said for Ahdieh’s ability to write such an irresistible, steadfast, and moving romance.

The “Rose and the dagger” is a continuation of the “Wrath and the dawn” a story about Khalid, a cursed man and Shahrzad, the woman who loves him. In this novel Shahrzad must find a way to break Khalid’s curse, and stop an impending war in order to find her way back to her one true love.Overall this conclusion was beautifully written and satisfying. It feels different than the first installment because even though it is centered on Shahrzad and Khalid’s love it dwells more on the forces trying to tear them apart. This shifts caused the story to be more than just a romantic tale.There are many new perspectives in this installment including Irsa, Rahim, and Omar. Adding these new perspectives gives the viewer a larger scope of the world revealing what’s happening in other places at the same time. It also makes certain events even more heart-breaking because we tend to dwell in the minds of characters when their emotions are heightened.This is a great sequel because it truly shows how much Khalid and Shahrzad care for each other and the world that surrounds them. I would highly recommend picking up this series. It is a romantic and easy read that will have you feeling a variety of emotions some of them conflicting. Also it offers up a new world with unique rules and characters that are flawed and beautifully constructed making them feel tangible. If you pick up this series, you won’t regret it.

The Rose & the Dagger was one of my most anticipated reads of 2016. I loved the first book and its sumptuous storytelling and heart-pounding romance. I was hoping both would continue into the sequel, but sadly, they didn't.The Wrath & the Dawn wasn't perfectly plotted, but it really didn't matter, because the romance and character development really took center stage. Unfortunately, the weak plot became more apparent in Rose, which felt like it was dragged out for far too long. The least interesting parts of Wrath (the war, Shazi's father, Tariq's resentment toward the Caliph) were the major thrust in this book, and none of it held my interest.Even the relationship between Shazi and Khalid felt lackluster. They had one really great scene that was full of tension, but after that, there was no spark.The brightest point of the book was Shazi's sister Irsa, but (view spoiler) I'll admit that I would LOVE a spinoff about her. She's a fascinating character.Overall, I wanted a lot more from this. I think Renee is a great writer, but I never connected with this book. I almost wish Wrath had been a longer standalone. This sequel felt like too much book for not enough story.

She hears about the Windisle Plantation and the mystery behind the ‘weeping wall’ and seems to get fixated on finding out the truth of the love story behind it.After researching as much as she can, Clara turns up at the weeping wall with a wish. It is rumoured that if you write a wish and poke it into the wall it may be granted. However, Clara’s wish is like no other before her and she is shocked to discover that there is a person living behind the wall.Jonah has never interacted with anyone who visits his wall but Clara’s wish stands out. His quiet life has been interrupted by this exquisite, beautiful girl who seems hell bent on getting to know him. There may be a big wall between them but over time a beautiful friendship forms between them, one that seems to overcome the physical barriers. Jonah begins to realise just how lonely he has been.Clara enlists Jonah to help her solve the mystery behind the weeping wall. In doing so she is also trying to encourage him to come back into the light, rather than hiding away in the dark. Jonah finds himself saying and doing things he never thought he would do again. Clara’s persistence and determination is changing things for him.I absolutely loved getting caught up in this fairy tale filled with mystery, trepidation and a beautiful friendship between a beast and his beauty ☺

Another 5 star read from Mia Sheridan. This novel was perfect. I absolutely loved it. In the same way, a few years ago, I fell in love with Archer's Voice. This is a poignant novel about redemption, forgiveness and trusting yourself. Clara was such a strong young woman and worthy of so much respect. The secondary story was such a tragedy and sadly normal for that time in history. I cannot recommend this more! You will not be disappointed and may even walk around with a smile on your face after finishing this book. Enjoy! 5 plus stars!! An incredible story!!

My very first impression about this book before even reading it was "this is too good to be true". I'm highly skeptical of weight-loss program; been burn so many times. However, in I Can Make You Thin, Paul McKenna holds that the key to weight-loss is to change your behavior about food. This sounded reasonable to me since because, in my own personal experience, the time I had successfully lost some weight was in part because I had a change in my mind set and behavior. So I gave this book a try.This book is just 176 pages book and includes a guided hypnosis CD. A change on behavior goes a long way to help on weight-loss. Once the weight-loss is started, your attitude toward eating healthier foods and proper exercise changes, which in turn promotes further weight-loss. Healthier foods and proper exercise are not imposed by this weight-loss system like in other diets, but become a natural outgrow from within the participant.I find the CD relaxing; I even awake full of energy. The hypnotic suggestions within the CD are geared toward reinforcing a sense of well being, removing guilty feelings, promoting auto examination and self-control, and considering healthy foods and exercise.McKenna claims that this system has worked 70% of the time. If this is true, this is much better success rate than dieting (10%).

For almost 3 years now I have been handing this book and 'mind-reprogramming' CD to every patient who comes to me to lose weight, or who is caught up in the mentality of diets, scales, cravings, or overeating.I am *delighted* that this version of "I Can Make You Thin" is finally available on Amazon.com rather than having to hunt it from the UK site. The long wait is over!At the risk of making this book seem too simple, here are Paul McKenna's 4 golden rules...1. When you are hungry, eat.2. Eat what you want (not what you think you "should".)3. Eat consciously and enjoy every mouthful.4. When you are full stop.I've seen other "I Can Make You Thin" reviews that dismiss the 4 rules as just obvious common sense. I'm not sure what common sense they can really mean since the rules make a mockery of the majority of get thin / lose weight approaches around. Rule 2 in particular certainly disagrees with the 'common sense' that I was taught as a medical doctor.Even if the rules are common sense, McKenna needs to be given great credit for showing people HOW to live these habits. Hopefully you are buying this for the results, not just to have a fun read and a relaxing, new-wavy listen.Yes, the coverpages are a bit hypey, but the inside is less so. The book is refreshingly thin :), jargon-free, and entertaining.McKenna's style also involves techniques such as tapping (TFT/EFT), hypnosis and NLP . Hypnosis is what first made Paul famous, and I've seen NLP Practitioners review this and say they knew all of these tricks before. In NLP terms Paul is saying that the Golden Rules are the "model" for being "naturally thin". Just knowing all the geewiz psych techniques won't help if you have the wrong model as I suspect most NLPers do.More importantly, you don't need any of these techniques to apply the 4 golden rules and lose weight.Most people can go the book & CD, discover the Aha moments, and get started on transforming their relationship with food and their weight straight away.There might be a group of people that could eat according to the 4 rules and not be thin, but I agree with what Paul says. For myself, I'm yet to meet such a person.I have counseled people who thought it didn't work for them, but it turned out they hadn't gotten the rules into their behavior, so here are some extra pointers...- Just listening to the CD over and over doesn't seem to be enough. The book plays a big part too. Expect to re-read the book at least once. You can succeed without the CD, so if it doesn't suit you, no sweat.- Don't add more rules. Extra rules almost always conflict with the four golden rules. Must eat breakfast? No. Just eat when you are hungry. Have to eat only fresh food? Check you really want to eat it, and whether you might want to eat anything else a bit more. Etc, etc.- Having trouble visualizing? Just act 'as if' you are visualizing, or on the CD just leave it to Paul.- Don't make exercise the focus. Improved fitness will improve your chances of living longer, but unfortunately the best research evidence is that exercise doesn't help much in losing weight. Keep to the four rules, which are all about food and getting back in control.- If you have a question or a difficulty, the answer is somewhere in the book. The book alone truly is comprehensive (unlike watching YouTube videos or reading this review.) Indeed the updates have covered the two or three remaining gaps I had found before, including the extra information for self-sabotage issues.In summary, McKenna is not the only person to propose this way of eating, but his is the most accessible version I know about. His is also the most likely to reach out from the page and permanently change your thinking and your behavior, and thereby your weight.You can buy his measly book just to prove Paul wrong :)Oh and then come back here and add your own review. After listening to this CD practically every night when I went to bed, I discovered that my anxiety about food and eating lessened. But soon thereafter, I lost 95lbs partially because I lost my strong attraction to junk foods and eating late at night, but mostly because I was able to go on a 60 day green juice diet with incredible ease. Now, 4 months after getting off the green juices, I have healthy meals and I'm not hampered by concerns or frustrations about when and what to eat.Not only do I recommend this CD, but I also purchased "Quit Smoking Today"(for friends who don't listen to it) and "I Can Make You Confident" - which after listening to it for a week, I developed a business plan to start my own catering business (which I've had on the back burner for years)and I have no doubt as to its success.

I think that these books are not what they used to be. The originality is gone. I probably will not buy it again.

I am so disappointed in this book. I hadn't purcased the Xmas books for a few years because they seemed repetitive. Repetitive would have been a plus. Southern Living needs to rethink these books or don't bother publishing anymore. Recipes boring, decor a waste of time.

Continues to be a great resource for holiday entertaining. We get it every year.
