Firstly, I must say I am a hardcore Neil Gaiman and Sandman fan, and I had been saving cash to buy this for a long while now. Getting it was a real big joy.I have written a big, detailed review on this box's content on my blog, where such thing belongs. Here, I shall stick to whether or not this is the fittest way to buy the series.I'll start with the fact that, if you haven't read the Sandman, I should read the Sandman. It is the finest piece of comics ever written, it's high quality literature, it's magical, it's big and world encompassing and it is also deeply personal.So, if you want to get started on the series, I would recommend either buying this slipcase (if you are pretty confident you'll like it, which I am) or buying the first TPB, feeling whether it's your thing and then going on to buying this.Two comments on those scenarios: firstly, there's pretty much no reason at all to buy the 10 TPBs separately. They are more expensive that way and you get less one cardboard box on your shelf. Secondly, if you are going for the buying the first TPB, I must warn you: the first Sandman volume is very different from the rest of the series. Master Gaiman was still finding his voice in comics and around his new brilliant characters, and the result is rather clumsy and unpleasant. Therefore, while the first arc is important for the story and the character development as a whole, if you are specially uncertain if you are going to like it and want to get some real taste of Sandman to decide, you should better buy Season of Mists (TPB #4). It is widely regarded as one of the greatest Sandman arcs, is relatively self contained and gives you a real taste of the real thing, so it would probably be your call (The Lord of Dreams going down to Hell to free his former lover and face Lucifer Morningstar's revenge for past offenses? Doesn't get sweeter than that.).Anyways, for those of you familiar with the work and struggling to decide whether this is the way to buy the series, I'll present you with my two cents.Firstly, this is the cheapest way to get all of the Sandman content (apart from Endless Nights, Death stories and extra stuff from the Absolute editions, this is just the core story), and a fine thing at that. This consists of the 10 remastered TPBs, and that remastering can definitely be seen. I'm one who read the previous editions, and can say for sure that the alleged recoloring was actually a very big thing.Now, the option to this would be buying either the Absolute or the Omnibus editions. Considering you have the money and love the series, I suppose the Omnibus would be the way to go, as it presents all the same core content with a much better binding and amazing hardcover. The 4 Absolute ones didn't quite do it for me, as they are big, not as beautifully wrapped and feature kinda pointless extra content (that being said from a hardcore fan who would certainly LOVE to see meaningful extra content).The TPB value shouldn't be ignored, though. Reading 10 thin, handy volumes is much more pleasant than reading two preposterous tomes, and that goes for lending your collection to people in order to spread word of this magnificent work (which is personally one of the main reasons I bought this).Also, speaking from the condition of a Brazilian resident, this was the cheapest and easiest way to buy this, shipping cost wise.So, that's what I have to say. If you wanna ask anything, feel free to do so at the comments.Dream on.

You really cannot go wrong with whichever way you decide to get the Sandman series; be it the the 3 volume Omnibus, 6 volume Absolute editions or this 10 book slipcase set. This is seriously one of the greatest comic book series ever to be written. Neil Gaiman fashioned a sublayer of rich characters that are a part of the DC Universe and an amazing universe all on its own. He created an entire mythos and pantheon out of the Endless. Not gods per se, but personifications of an idea. Lucifer makes an apearrance in one of my favorite story arcs in the series, which ultimately leads to his own DC series, written by Dana Carey. The tv show was very roughly based on the Lucifer books. Very loosely in fact. I would suggest picking up those books as well. Totally worth it.Sandman is a new take on an old DC character of the same name, handled masterfully. Gaiman takes a rather mundane character and creates a new one that still has ties to the old one in a weird way. This is explained quickly in volume one.

Stunning in both depth and scope, The Sandman as a graphic novel series has pretty much set the gold standard for the art form. Gaiman explores life, death, relationships, loneliness, family, and friendship, through a wild and wonderful cast of characters. Without rubbing the reader's face in his literary and intellectual prowess, Gaiman weaves a wealth of mythology and pop culture into his narrative.The only small flaw I can detect in the series is that the quality of both the line art and the coloring rather vary between issues, and not every style appeals to me. But for every so-so artist working on the series, there are two who delivered gorgeous panels.This version comes in a beautifully produced, sturdy casing.

Sandman is gret, that is known. This collection is also of great value and the colors DO look better yay!I must point out tho that it's true that there is too little a margin and sometimes you have to try really hard to spread it open in order to read dialog in the inside borders :/ but I don't think that's a deal breaker at all!

Sandman, as a work itself, is definitely a masterpiece. As for the items: The box itself is sturdy and each volume was printed well - good coloring and material. I only have some issues about the binding. Some pages were stuck together and while reading, they are pried apart and part of the page is ruined by being ripped along with the excessive dried glue. Then the foldings of the book side are inaccurate such that the front and back covers are uneven, thus either ends up short of covering the comic pages.

Fabulous - if you have not read Sandman, you must buy this set. I started by just getting the 1st volume and went back for the set. As others have stated, the first volume is a bit slow, but stick with it, they get better and better and if you're like me, you will read through them all too quickly! So enjoyable...

Or the conquering of Canaan by an invading Israel. Or if the alleged wisdom of King Solomon has a base in truth. (Mustn't he rather have been quite a loser, in view of the breaking up of his kingdom as soon as he was gone?)What about the beginnings of monolatry and monotheism? No definite answers.Which child did Isaiah's prophecy, about the child that will be born, that Christmas lore likes to emphasize, refer to, actually? And more of the kind.I recommend this book if you want to update yourself on the various disputes about biblical interpretation.How does the author reconcile the findings, that he reports here, with his personal religious attitude? He doesn't. '...modern biblical scholarship and traditional Judaism are and must always remain completely irreconcilable.'In the last chapter, the author admits to his personal contradiction: his religious self considers modern Bible research irrelevant. A split mind.My headline is a quote from page 411. The chapter deals with the kingless period of Israel. Whether the author meant to comment on modern politics in Israel or the US is not clear to me.

This book is written in order to explore two broad themes: how did faithful Jews and Christians read the Bible in the centuries leading up to the beginnings of modern archaeology and textual criticism; and how has the work of these technical experts put a new spin on the texts and challenged what we believed? Kugel does not try to reconcile the two. But if you would like a clearly written, concise explanation of the differences between those two camps, this book does a bang-up job.

A better title for the book would be "How to Read the Old Testament." The book only covers the Old Testament and is very informative. A fascinating study of the Old Testament of the Bible, which is considered the books for the Jewish religion, and a preface for the Christian religion. This is a great book and I am glad that I took the opportunity to buy and read this book. The author writes in a very understandable book about a difficult subject. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to know and understand the Jewish religion and what influenced the Christian religion. One of the very few books that I consider worth rereading over and over again.

What a refreshing and invaluable book! Kugel is a magnificent explicator who succeeds in making the historical and religious stew of the "Old Testament" come alive in all its complexity. Only quibble is with the publisher (Free Press, a division of Simon and Schuster): my edition of the book (2007 paperback) is lacking a whole "signature" of pages, from pp. 263 through 294. Be sure to check that your copy includes those pages.

There's a phenomenon at large, prestigious colleges and universities that I think it peculiar to that kind of institution (although my experience of others is limited, and I can't be sure). I call it "Rock Star Professors." They are people whose lectures are performances in the best sense of the word. These professors are enlightening, amusing, and charismatic and a great many students sign up for their classes even if they don't have any interest in the subject matter.James L. Kugel, now at Bar Ilan University in Israel, was just such a Rock Star Professor during the over 20 years he taught at Harvard. His introduction to the Bible course regularly drew 900 students, many of them not particularly interested in religion. When the enrollment for his course surpassed the similarly popular introductory economics course taught by John Kenneth Galbraith, the headline in the Harvard Crimson read "God Beats Mammon."I've never had the opportunity to hear Kugel lecture, but if his new book How to Read the Bible is representative of his work, he is certainly engaging, enlightening and charismatic in print, as well. As it happens the subject matter is of great interest to me, but it's also something that can be written in a deadly dull style and Kugel completely avoids that.His task in this book is to look at the Hebrew Bible (in English translation) from two distinct points of view: that of the people he calls the "ancient interpreters" (both Christian and Jewish) and that of modern biblical scholarship (incorporating linguistic, archaeological, and historical findings into our understanding). He begins by saying that, as an Orthodox Jew, the findings of modern scholarship that show that the Bible was written by a variety of people at a variety of times and that some of the "historical" sections could not represent actual history were very disturbing to him. He had some misgivings and indecision about entering into academic biblical scholarship as his life work. OTOH, Kugel expounds, he didn't feel he could just ignore what others had found out and he needed to come to some sort of modus vivendi that allowed him to continue to live an observant life and accept this information. From the totally opposite point of view, he points out that an understanding of how the Bible has been interpreted through history in both Jewish and Christian views is essential to understanding much of Western literature, art, and culture, so it's insufficient to just acquaint oneself with modern scholarship.So Kugel compares and contrasts the two approaches, and does so with the genius of a great storyteller and showman. The Bible is - among other things - a collection of great stories and he tells them with aplomb and with an appreciation for the contrast between the traditional and scholarly views. Was the story of Adam and Eve one of the Fall of Man, as traditionally interpreted, or an etiological tale about the movement from hunter/gatherer society to a more agrarian culture, as archaeological and linguistic evidence suggests? Why are there three different "wife/sister" stories in the Bible, where a patriarch tries to pass his wife off as his sister? Who wrote the Psalms and what was their original purpose? Was David king of a great nation, protege of King Saul, and a flawed human being in his private life, or an upstart who launched a military coup and took over a small chiefdom? Did he even exist? Complex new technologies have opened up millions of new possibilities for discovering agents of disease or possible treatments, while creating countless new opportunities for failure in the process. In the 21st century, it is exponentially harder to find new drugs than it was in the 20th, and increasingly, young researchers around the world are feeling the grind.Luckily, science has all the tools of the Enlightenment at its disposal to expose mistaken research and weed out bad methods. There are regular conferences, internal reviews, retractions, and impeccable science journalism at the journals Nature and Science especially. The more exuberant apologists for science will tell us that unlike religious prophecy, science gains from failed predictions. So, is there really a problem?Richard Harris, NPR science reporter, argues in this book that yes, diminishing returns is creating real problems for science. This book reads like a long NPR story, so it would probably make a great audiobook, except that I wouldn't recommend listening to it in the car: some of Harris's findings would probably make you slam on the brakes. Despite the best intentions of hundreds of whistleblowers, and an institutional recognition that things need to change, much of the medical research funded by tax money and grieving parents is… well… a word that Harris refuses to put down on print.On a structural level, the stakes are very high. A researcher might spend a decade working based on false assumptions, or become widely known in his field for a lauded finding that might not be exactly true. And there is no prize for discovering that a result is false. Researchers may take months or years failing to reproduce a result, with the only reward being the ability to grumble about it at next year’s conference. Scientists are human and there are always little problems at the interpersonal level, but when those problems are well-known to everyone and seem unavoidable, they become part of the structure of science itself.The result is that there are a number of sacred cows that regularly spawn bad science, but which both academics and publishers have refused to abandon, resulting in the 70-90% rate of inaccuracy among published studies. The inexcusable becomes normal: there’s the overconfidence in mouse studies. There’s the sloppy use of cell lines, which is no longer tolerated in industry studies. There’s the infamous “p = 0.05” standard, which is well known by biostatisticians to be too loose, but which would slow biomedical publication to a near halt if it were abandoned. Researchers are evaluated on quantity of publications, rather than quality, during job interviews. Data sharing in biomedical science lags far behind other fields, due to intense competition for funding. Worst of all, research universities do not offer classes in methodology where problems like these might be discussed. Researchers trying to evaluate recent literature and get new results are forced to learn “on their feet,” either in the laboratory or at conferences.This is now recognized as a crisis throughout the field. In 2015 a discussion was opened as to how things might be improved. Unfortunately, besides closer attention to detail at the top journals, there is no consensus about what can be done. The hypercompetitive environment that promotes false results and sloppy standards relies on the same psychological drive that causes good researchers to seek out hidden methodological problems. The most frightening question is, in the long run, can these problems actually be fixed? At a structural level, the law of diminishing returns (called Eroom’s Law in the book) means that research is going to get more and more expensive — the possibilities may still be exciting, but institutions are going to pour more and more cash to complete any given study, and the desire for positive results is going to be more, not less. The import of this is that all of us, doctors and laypeople alike, will need to be more and more skeptical of research findings as time goes on.Although biomedical researchers may want to insist that this book is a compilation of challenges rather than fatal flaws, and that their research continues to save lives, any academic or journalist with a serious interest in the truth needs to read it, in order to understand how biological research in general operates today. When I, a humanities grad student, explained to my biomedical researcher friend the type of procedure that has been proposed by my colleagues for applying “cognitive science” to artistic behavior, he laughed out loud. When you know how modern science really works, and the vast number of pitfalls that might be hiding between the lines of any individual paper, the uses to which non-experts put your work can sound naive or even absurd. Basic Books knocked it out of the park with this book.Every point that was taken up in the intro was dealt with in a separate chapter (in order) with not too many words and with interesting prose. The whole book can be read in a couple of afternoons of quiet time.There are 10 chapters and 236 pages of prose. 23.6 pages per chapter (on average) and just enough for the reader to take them one bit at a time.The footnotes were not as thorough as they might have been. For instance, I might have wanted to look up the origin of the authors assertion that "The reality for most cancer drugs is that most patients don't respond." There was a citation, but when I tracked it down, it did not point back to that topic.The topics are:1. Someone chose a sample of 53 studies and found out that only 6 of them could be reproduced.2. A sampling of some of the reasons/ ways in which research goes wrong. (To be expanded later.)3. Poor experimental design and problems in the study of Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS).4. Mice are not humans and a person can draw the wrong conclusions from pretending that they are (for a variety of reasons).5. Papers are often written up testing misidentified cancer cells/ antibodies. (7000 studies. p. 96).6. i. 70% of substandard genomics research comes from China. ii. 98.8% of genomics research does not stand the test of time (i.e. spurious correlations). iii. Most Ph.D. level scientists (in the biological sciences) don't have a good grasp of the epistemic foundations of experimental design or statistics.7. Most papers don't contain enough detail (anywhere) for someone to repeat the experiment. (This is one of the definitions of a non-reproducible paper). Sharing too much data can get you "scooped."8. There is a huge oversupply of scientists and that creates some misaligned incentives. Only 21% of them will find tenure track jobs. With 400 applications for one job a common phenomenon, the most important thing is to publish *something* (not necessarily something accurate). China shows up again at the forefront of academic fraud (p. 178).9. Even when we want to evaluate the usefulness of medicines, there are problems with demonstrating clear statistical relationships (in the context of tissue collection/ drug discovery/ biomarker validation).10. Sketches of ideas to make fundamental change.There are lots of thought questions that come up:1. What does it mean to talk about increased funding for research? If most papers don't tell anything that is true or reproducible, then more money will only make more papers that will not stand the test of time.2. Is there really a shortage of scientists? (We keep hearing that every 15 minutes on the news.) One factor for the publish-perish mentality is that people are trying to get a very few academic jobs. And part of these methodological difficulties is because of the rush to publish.3. How much of this is a problem outside of the biomedical field? This book only dealt with one fraction of human concern. Admittedly, it is a large fraction.4. The journey of 1000 miles starts with the first step. None of us who are alive to read this book today are going to see any significant change in the direction suggested by this book. There are just too many people involved to make such a change and too few policy makers who have given any thought to this. How long have we known that there are too many PhDs in History or Poly Sci? And yet they are still overproduced and underemployed year after year. How long have we known that the tenure system is a bad idea? And yet it goes on decade after decade. I'm not holding my breath.Verdict: Worth the time. Worth the money.

I have had several skin issues through my lifetime, and am now dealing with aging skin. This author is British, and the few specific products she recommends are not even available in the U. S. I only recognized one product that was mentioned. This was a very short book, containing very little interesting or useful information of any kind. One could derive more knowledge from the average article in any women's magazine. Since I've done quite a bit of personal research on skincare, I can honestly say this book wasn't worth the time of the money. Sorry to be so harsh, but there is a wealth of good books on health and beauty out there. Skip this one!

I recently purchased and read Rachel Knight’s “Evidence Based Anti-Aging Skincare for All Budgets.” I am a woman entering midlife, so it’s a priority to take care of my skin. I found this particular book to be the most useful of those I have seen. The author has great knowledge in the subject matter and shares evidence based science on how to prevent and care for aging skin. She talks about different types of skincare products and their efficacy, as well as procedures such as laser. She discusses natural remedies and nutrition, food, diet, supplements, and hydration. She also touches on hair, teeth, lips, and muscle tone. She presents information on how to avoid the appearance of aging before it starts. And what I found to be the most useful item in this book is the worksheet she provides at the end, where you can keep track of how these skincare routines are working for you. I would recommend this book to friends, as I found it genuine and easy to comprehend, and the author has the proper credentials.

We live in a world full of toxins and I like to take the holistic approach to anything that I can. I use a lot of coconut oil on my face, but honestly when it comes to face-wash and moisturizer, I haven't typically gone the holistic route. But this book really opened my eyes. I also really enjoy that there is a nutrition section, because it is so important to overall health - including skin! This is a great read. Lots of fun tips/advice, but also lots of informative information and facts.

The first thing I did when I finished the book was to google all my products, I had no idea about all the info that we're missing when we bought a skincare products, you can also find some really interesting tips to prevent and control fine lines, and age gracefully. Easy to read with a lot of helpful info.

An incredibly educational and informative read. For anyone looking to read up more on skincare, and more importantly holistic, natural skincare! There are really great recipes on scrubs and moisturizers that anyone could make with a few ingredients (my favorite is the skin brightening lemon and greek yoghurt face mask and scrub!). This book is great for people looking for some help to change up their skincare routine, or for people who just want to learn more about what would work best for their skin! Highly recommend!

This author goes into every tip, trick, and product the cosmetic world sells the public and tells you which ones work and which ones don't, and backs it up with well supported, intelligent information. If you're looking for trustworthy products to buy and practices to follow for anti aging skincare that actually works, Rachel Knight has done the legwork for you. She's got your back! I'll never buy a bogus skin cream again!

Wonderful book! As someone who is obsessed with skincare, I'm always looking for new ideas and products to try. I loved the fact that the author explains the scientific process of testing whether something really works or not—there are so many false claims and magic potions to wade through out there and this book offers a guide to products that really work. I was also pleased to see some suggestions, like drinkable collagen, that I became familiar with while living in Asia but haven't quite caught on here yet.

Excellent book! I have already told several girlfriends about It! Rachel knight describes a holistic approach on how to look younger than our age and who doesn't want to look younger than their actual age ! This book is broken down into sections , which are easy to follow. There is even a great section on nutrition . If you want to learn how to have youthful skin and how to keep it that way, this is the book for you !

This is the absolute WORST digital copy on ANY book that I have ever used!!! First, it is apparently not designed for the Kindle Voyage (a fact that was not disclosed when I bought it). Second, when trying to read it on the Kindle Fire, the font is so tiny that it is practically unreadable without a magnifying glass and when one tries to change the font size, that option is not available; when you turn the Kindle horizontally, the font is now of readable size but there are sections of text that are missing and to not want to load. I will NEVER purchase a digital textbook through Amazon EVER again!! When I called customer service at Amazon, I was told that my only option at this point is to buy a hardcopy of the book and return the digital one. I am trying to read coursework that is assigned and find that I cannot complete the required reading and will have to find a hardcopy of this book and wait for it to be delivered - wasting precious time that I just do not have.If I could give zero stars on this one I would.

I’m pretty annoyed with the quality of this book. I turned pages gently and they are falling out of the binding. It’s very poorly bound and it’s really frustrating.Edit: literally minutes after writing my first review, this “very good” book that I’ve used ONCE completely fell apart.

This is by far one of the best evidence-based practice books I have found. Very clear and concise. Takes you step-by-step through the entire process. This is a great resource book if it's not being used for a course. Overall very detailed and supportive of the EBP process. Highly recommended for research or for EBP projects in any nursing field.

The book and content are very easy to understand without being overly complicated. The only issue I have is not with the book content but with the binding. When you open to a page and try to flatten the book out, the pages sometimes become unglued. I fixed this by taping in the pages that unglued with packing tape but still frustrating that it does that. Hopefully the manufacturer will remedy this for future publications.

The content is fine but I guess I need a three ring binder. This book is the most recent version so I'm not sure how long it was sitting around in someone's garage but every page I read--falls out. Is it crappy manufacture? Who knows? I have to keep it together with spring clips. :(

The authors have made this useless book unreadable. In an attempt to not plagiarize the multiple cited passages, it reads like a thesaurus on crack. It was like torture. Please, teachers, don't choose this book unless you secretly hate your students.

My book is literally falling apart, pages are coming out left and right. This book is poorly put together which is not very helpful when studying through a Mater's Program. Thank goodness it has page numbers so I can see where each page actually belongs but this is creating so much more work for me when I already work full time, am going to graduate school and have a very busy/active family schedule.

Book content is fine, however, I am 2 weeks into my course and the binding has pulled away from the glued pages and the pages are falling out of the book. Unsatisfied with the quality and highly disappointed. My educational program requires physical books and I must somehow keep this one together or purchase another! Perhaps a zip top baggie?

With "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay", Michael Chabon weaves an epic story about the immigrant experience in American before, during and after the second World War, viewed through the lens of an industry that was largely pioneered by Jewish New Yorkers who had come to the U.S. from Europe: comic books.The tale of Sammy Clay and his cousin, Josef Kavalier, who has just managed to escape Nazi-occupied Prague, is one of boot-strapping success, but also one of tragedy, repression, lost love, and broken hearts. It is, however, in the end, about redemption, being true to one's self, and second chances.Chabon writes with his usual inimitable style, creating a unique vision of mid-century New York City, populated with fantastic characters almost as big as the larger-than-life four-color heroes and heroines they create. We see Sammy's greatest dreams realized, his hopes for true love crushed, the precarious balance he finds in later years, and finally, his one last attempt at self-reinvention in a life characterized by little else. We watch Joe escape the clutches of true evil, but agonize when he loses nearly everything, until he slowly reconstructs himself as the man he has always wanted to be. This book helped me through a very tough time in my life.It was so beautiful and adventurous and human and sad and happy and wondrous that, over the course of a month, it lifted me out of the darkness. I rationed it to one chapter a day, which I read on the subway on my way to the office. I looked so forward to it. It's one of those books I found myself thinking about when I wasn't reading it, counting the hours until my special half hour on the subway.I feel like the subject matter mentioned out of context might turn some people off (mostly women): it centralizes around the two jewish boys who created the comic book "The Escapist" (a metaphor for the "Superman" comic) in bustling New York City during and after World War II, a time when America needed a hero. I promise you, though, the characters, the tone, the locations and the deeply human undertones transcend the book's logline. It's really about love, religion, overcoming deep adversity (including nazis, heartbreak and profound loss), loyalty, friendship, death-defying escape acts and edge-of-your-seat excitement and adventure. The word "wondrous" really does capture the feeling the book left me with - a sense of childlike wonder and heart rending emotion simultaneously. It captures the excitement of the time so well that it made me feel I was part of something larger, just by reading it.I hope you'll treat yourself to this (pulitzer winning) epic of human proportions. Regardless of your sex, religion, race or creed, this book has something amazing to give you. It has stuck with me for over ten years and I can't wait to read it again.

To be honest, I struggled through some of the beginning, but am so glad I stuck with it. There is so much in this book about human nature, cruelty, friendship, love, & forgiveness. I read and savored it over time, as I did The Goldfinch or All the Light We Cannot See. As a comic lover whose mother bought her a comic book every trip to the grocery store (& I still have them), I loved how comics and their creation were woven into the fabric of this story. I will be re-reading mine again, looking at their construction with fresh eyes.

This story begins in 1939 in New York City. Sammy Klayman lives as an only child to a single mother, and one day his cousin from Europe - Joe Kavalier shows up at their doorstop after escaping his war torn country. He is alone and scared, and Sammy does not like that this kid is not a member of his household. Quickly, though, Sammy discovers that Joe can draw. Sammy starts to share his love of comic books, and soon he and Joe are working together making their own comic book series. They come up with their hero - the Escapist - based on Joe's past of being able to escape like Houdini. Their comics soon become extremely popular. They have their own series, their own toys, their own radio show. Joe stashes all of the money he makes away so that one day he can bring his entire family to America.Tragedy strikes, and Joe runs away. For 11 years, Sammy and Joe's girl - Rosa - search for him to no avail. It isn't until Rosa's son, Thomas, starts to disappear into New York City, skipping school, to visit a mysterious man at a local magic shop. Soon Joe is back in their lives and everything changes for he and Sammy.This book was.....okay. First of all - it was way too long. Very wordy. I found myself skimming sometimes just because there wasn't a lot of dialogue and too much explanation. It is a writing style - I get it - it just isn't for me. Second of all - I did not like Joe. His character was frustrating and extreme. There was a fairly good size chunk of this book during the part that Joe is absent that I felt could have been eliminated all together. Or at least shortened. It completely derailed the story, and didn't fit. The beginning, though, and the ending, when Sammy and Joe were together - was entertaining. Sammy is a witty character and had some great lines. He kept the story afloat and moving forward, unlike Joe's character.This book is definitely for folks who love comic books. They talk quite a bit about the comic book greats throughout this book and mix true history into the story of these fictional writers. My husband - who is a total nerd for these types of stories - is going to read it next so I will be anxious to hear his take on it.
