Not only a good revision of Omani history that pays attention to economic, political, social and cultural aspects, but a deep discussion about the meaning of modernity and nation in the Gulf.Also, the best analysis of the Arab Spring (not only in Oman) I've read yet.Highly recommended.

Honestly enjoyed the book content. However the book format was in small font and difficult to read. SO buy in kindle so you can enlarge to decent font size. I wish amazon would somehow note in description of books or filter by Font size.

Buyers beware: book was printed on demand on cheap paper, which is already curling. Cambridge seems to be cutting corners.

I read this on the kindle. It was a good history and contemporary assessment of Oman. In particular, the last chapters were very good, though more likely to appeal to serious students of Oman than to a casual reader. However, the formatting (or rather it’s absence) on the kindle made the experience of reading very painful.
